FLOW STATE
Flow State (2024-present)
The Flow State series profoundly reflects Viktor Frankl's insight: “Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.” This concept manifests through striking black-and-white contrasting elements that highlight the tension between clarity and ambiguity—those pivotal moments of choice that are both empowering and challenging.
These contrasts reveal that even in uncertainty, individuals can reclaim focus, transforming obstacles into opportunities for growth while navigating life with intent. Fragmented figures dissolve into fluid, abstract forms, representing the complex nature of decision-making when clarity is elusive. As viewers retract, representational shapes gradually converge, symbolizing the clarity that emerges through perspective.
The artwork serves as a vital reminder of the broader insights that can be overshadowed in moments of intense immersion, wherein individual experiences can obscure the intricate beauty of the collective. Even amidst uncertainty, our core understanding and discernment can illuminate the path forward. Ultimately, it inspires us to recognize our greatest power: the power of choice.
DREAM DEFERRED
Dream Deferred (2023-2024)
In my "Dream Deferred Series," I draw deep inspiration from Langston Hughes’ poignant poem, What Happens to a Dream Deferred. Like Hughes' exploration of delayed dreams, the metals in my work undergo a transformation—revealing hidden depths, evolving textures, and changes that reflect the unpredictable nature of dreams left to fester.
The oxidation process mirrors the deterioration of postponed aspirations, as they erode or take on new, unexpected forms, much like how unfulfilled dreams manifest in life. This connection between the metals and their environment reflects the resilience of the human spirit, capable of enduring and adapting in the face of adversity.
Ultimately, my art serves as a testament to the enduring power of dreams, even when deferred. It echoes Hughes' final, emphatic question: "Or does it explode?" This line encapsulates the tension between enduring patience and the potential for explosive change, reminding us that dreams, even when delayed, hold the power to shape and be shaped by the world—unpredictable, yet profoundly transformative.
